Bonner, John V.H. (2015) Lullaby - The singing bowl. [Video]
Abstract

Supriya Nagarajan visited a remote part of the South Indian countryside and while walking past some paddy fields, noticed some women working. Children played while infants slept in makeshift cradles tied on trees as slings. Supriya was captivated by the way the women used their voices in soothing repetitive rhythms to calm and comfort their babies.
The performance explores Indian lullabies and night-time sounds from different parts of the globe. Supriya Nagarajan is the director of Manasamitra and works internationally as a vocalist. The soundscape was created by Duncan Chapman, a composer/sound artist and the shakuhachi flute is played by Dr Mike McInerney who studied under the master shakuhachi player Yoshikazu Iwamato.
