Abstract
This paper proposes a novel adaptation to the electromagnetic flow metering technique, to measure ‘power law’ velocity
profiles in axisymmetric flow. Firstly, we use a uniform magnetic field and measure the flow induced potential difference
between 2 points on the pipe boundary to determine the mean velocity. Next, in a highly non-uniform magnetic field, the flow
induced potential difference between 2 additional pipe boundary points is measured to determine the power law exponent q. In
this way, the power law velocity profiles for single phase flows of conducting liquids, can be determined.
