Abstract

Este artigo aborda o fenômeno, pouco esquisado, das empresas sociais estabelecidas no Reino Unido. Essas organizações éticas exercem ativamente uma forte agência moral através
dos seus compromissos com objetivos sociais e ambientais, que vão além da orientação que
prega a maximização de lucro. Mais especificamente, o artigo examina as empresas
alternativas de alimentos (EAAs) e foca no capital social e no capital ético que elas geram nas suas próprias comunidades. Através do uso de um projeto de pesquisa qualitativa, o artigo oferece clareza conceitual ao domínio da pesquisa de empresas sociais. Dessa forma, o artigo contribui para com a literatura na área de responsabilidade social e ética empresarial, já que pesquisas atuais nesta área permanecem focadas no comportamento de organizações de
grande porte. As contribuições deste estudo incluem o aperfeiçoamento teórico de conceitos
relevantes, tais como definições existentes de EAAs vis-à-vis supermercados sociais, bem
como de conceitos atuais de capital ético que, até o momento, permanecem pouco desenvolvidos.

This paper deals with the phenomenon of social enterprises established in the United Kingdom. These ethical organizations actively pursue a strong moral agency through commitment to social and environmental objectives, which goes beyond the orientation of preach the maximization of profit. More specifically, the article examines alternatives (AAS) and focuses on the social capital and ethical capital they generate in their own communities. Through the use of a qualitative research project, the article offers conceptual clarity to the domain of social enterprise research. Thus, the article contributes to the literature in the area of ​​social responsibility and business ethics, since current research in this area remains focused on the behavior of large. The contributions of this study include the theoretical improvement of concepts relevant definitions, such as existing definitions of AASs vis-à-vis social and of current concepts of ethical capital that, so far, remain poorly developed
