Safeguarding Childhood: Early Intervention and Surveillance in a Late Modern Society

This text provides an analysis of the development of thinking about child abuse, arguing that we can identify the emergence of a
“preventive” state that is geared to preventing problems before they occur through ever closer regulation and surveillance. Its
target audience includes students and researchers in social work, social policy, early childhood studies and sociology, childcare
