Abstract

This is the first of two articles. It introduces the background to
a workshop to update mental health nurses toward competently
administering long-acting intramuscular injections. The art
and science of administering intramuscular injections is a
complex activity for the nurse to perform, thus key issues in
doing so are discussed.
