Abstract
In his 2012 book The Transdisciplinary Studio, Coles argues that we have entered a post-post-studio age in which artists and designers are now defined not by their discipline but by the fluidity with which their practices move between the fields of architecture, art, and design.
Coles spent time in the studios of Jorge Pardo Sculpture in Mexico, Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design in Munich, Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, and Åbäke in London, observing and interviewing the practitioners and their assistants.
Here he will discuss his findings in conversation with Spike Island’s director Helen Legg.
