Abstract

The growth of radio services in has placed pressure on the allocation and management of the radio frequency spectrum due to the requirement for multilateral harmonisation of the spectrum for specific uses and technologies. Therefore a need of characterisation in order to develop immune systems and allow an accurate location and diagnosis of the source is advantageous. This paper describes research conducted in conjunction with the Radiocommunications Agency and the National Grid Company for the location and characterisation of typical impulsive noise sources. It summarises investigations into the emission of radio frequency energy from several power system sources, including fault arcs, switchgear operations and defective insulation.
