Community Cohesion and the ‘death of multiculturalism’ in Britain: evidence from Oldham

This Plenary Presentation to the 2012 CRONEM Conference held at the University of Surrey, UK,takes on the charge that we are witnessing the 'death of multiculturalism' as a public policy goal in the UK. It argues that we must study local policy development and implementation to truly understand the new approach of 'community cohesion'. The presentation uses empirical reserach evidence from Oldham, Greater Manchester to argue that cohesion is a re-naming and a re-balancing of multiculturalism, not its 'death'.
