Abstract

“It will all be over by Christmas” Only last year, those with the last personal memories of the horrors of trench warfare, Henry Allingham and Harry Patch, passed away. As the First World War passes from living memory we rely to some degree on our regimental traditions and museums to maintain an understanding of the human cost.
