'Brass Art' is the collective name for artists Chara Lewis, Kristin Mojsiewicz and Anneke Pettican. The group's work, which incorporates photography, painting and sculpture, often approaches its meditations on the jagged distinction between the public and the private from a childlike standpoint, thus imbuing its political undertones with a playful subtlety. Published in conjunction with Brass Art's exhibition at YSP between March and June 2008, this book merges an extended introduction by YSP Head Curator Clare Lilley and a prescient and detailed essay by David Thorp, with many colour photographs of the collective's arresting work.
Brass Art: Skyscraping comprised new installation, video and drawing developed over two years in discussion with Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Exploring actual and virtual space, the artists involved used the latest digital technology to position themselves as shadows, ghosted forms, reflections and miniature models.
