King, F, Humphreys, Paul and Metcalfe, R. (2011) A Review of the Information Available to Assess the Risk of Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion in Waste Packages. Technical Report. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
Abstract

A review was undertaken of information concerning microbiological processes in the
main engineered barrier system (EBS) components of a selection of disposal concepts
and environments within which these concepts are likely to be employed. The potential
for this microbiological activity to cause MIC was then evaluated. This evaluation was
partly quantitative, including scoping calculations. The potential influences of MIC on
the overall evolution of a GDF were then assessed. Finally, approaches and
methodologies for investigating MIC were reviewed and are included in the report.
