Abstract

Barrie Webb considers Richard Barrett's works for trombone from the performer's perspective. He discusses in detail the preparation for performance of both pieces, in the process identifying problems and proposing solutions. As part of this process, he also discusses Barrett's approach to structure and expression and demonstrates the unity present between technical means and expressive intent.
