Abstract

Work for solo ‘cello prepared with string and violin, written for Séverine Ballon, one the foremost ‘cellists of her generation. The The ‘ocean beyond earth’ of the title is Enceladus, one of the satellite moons of Saturn discovered by NASA’s Cassini mission (2005-2015) to have a tidal subglacial ocean beneath its crust with geyers which shoot out water crystals and vapour that contribute to the formation of Saturn’s icy rings. The work was premiered in Melbourne, Australia with further performances at France Musique, Festival Sonora Vertix Spain, Venice Biennale etc.
