Abstract
While the independent Chinese travel market continues to grow there has been very little attention given to how small groups of independent Chinese travellers make a travel decision. Using a travel oriented group decision-making exercise of selecting a destination this study examines the interaction process of group members. Bales (1950) interaction process analysis (IPA) was implemented to guide this study. Both verbal and non-verbal behaviours of group members in the group decision-making were analysed. Findings reveal that verbal message is mainly about task-related information, and non-verbal message is dominated by gesturing, smiling, and nodding
