Abstract
Mitochondria play important role in cell homeostasis, actively participating
in energy metabolism, generation of reactive oxygen species,
aging, and iniatiation of apoptosis. Data have recently
accumulated describing the existence of somatic mtDNA mutations
and mitochondrial microsatellite instability in various human gynecologic
malignancies, including endometrial cancer (EC). Currently,
we investigated the mtDNA alterations analyzing a total of 1623 bp
of mitochondrial DNA in forty cases of primary human ECs. PCRSSCP-direct
sequencing techniques were applied. Altogether, four
out of 40 (10%) EC samples carried changes of mtDNA, and in one
case (number 103) four different variations occured
