Ashby, Justine (2002) Jane Campion. In: Fifty Key Contemporary Filmmakers. Routledge, London, pp. 90-98. ISBN 978-0-415-18973-6
Abstract

This chapter examines the career of a leading female filmmaker of recent years and locates her work within the shifting
contexts of independent and mainstream cinema. Focusing on a number of films, from her low-budget early work to the later
critically acclaimed, more mainstream films such as The Piano, it also considers Campion's status as an 'auteur' and her
relationship to feminist film theory and practice. It is part of a comprehensive anthology on contemporary filmmakers which now
constitutes a substantial reference book central to the field.
