Abstract

This paper briefly reviewed the modern history of Chinese design and its relative social changes, discussed the long term disjointed situation between design theory and design practice. It takes China’s contemporary wedding as a case, by analyzing the design of wedding ceremony and artefacts, to investigate the problem about the native tradition and the foreign influence in design in the past several decades, therefore reaches the conclusion that the practical design solution should analyse the actual needs rather than simply taking nationalization or internationalization as a standard measurement.
