Abstract
In this paper we examine experimentally and numerically the effect of exposing a metamaterial to relatively high-power EM waves. We show that a metamaterial consisting of a conventional Split Ring Resonator on an FR4 substrate can undergo combustion when exposed to 1W of RF. We compare the experimental results to numerical simulations, showing that nu- merical models can be accurately used to predict the thermal behaviour of metamaterials under exposure to high-power RF.
