As a recent graduate student I have read many, and I am sure I am not the only one to deem them tedious, theoretical, and impersonal. Denis Feather, however, does the exact opposite. He speaks to you in a conversational matter, making YOU the focus of his book. By giving examples of questions his own students ask him, and answering them as though you were sitting right there in class, Feather talks to you, heart-to-heart, as though it were over a cup of tea. It gives form to the reading, making you understand truly what it is academics are expecting from your thesis. Not only is Feather guiding you through the thesis’ writing process, but he is giving students the boost of confidence much needed during these difficult times, stating: ‘you should be proud of what you have achieved’. This fun and informative read has helped me through my thesis, and I will surely advise it to any prospective graduate that crosses my path.
