The Double Bass

Christopher Hunter is the orchestral musician in The Double Bass a one man play by Patrick Süskind award winning writer of Perfume: the Story of a Murderer.

Comic and tragic, it is the compelling story of a musician in crisis. Deciding to take control of his chaotic life he is forced to consider a choice between his two loves.

The challenge: To design a touring set that creates the sense of a single room in which a lonely musician lives. I focussed on the idea of physically representing sound through absract shapes that suspended freely in the space creating the sense of a soundproofed room within the outer walls of the theatre.
