Abstract

Symons, Jelinger Cookson (1809–1860), barrister and inspector of schools, was born on 27 August 1809 at West Ilsley, Berkshire, the son of the Revd Jelinger Symons (1778–1851) and his wife, Maria, eldest daughter of John Airey of Northumberland. Symons's father was vicar of Radnage, Buckinghamshire; he was an authority on botany and published Synopsis plantarum Insulis Britannicis indigenarum (1798).
