Abstract: | Jacques Rancière writes in the Le spectateur émancipé, ‘the relation between art and poltics is not a passage from fiction to reality, but a relation between two ways of making fiction’. [1] In this first project by Fictional Museum the artists create an installation of suitcases in the CAB atrium in response to reading Bourriaud's 'Precarious Constructions'.(2) The installation responds to issues of meaning, movement, transition and instability. Bourriaud claims the conceptual and material precariousness of art should be associated with a new ethical and aesthetic value. The ‘real’ of contemporary art is situated in its ability to speak of difference; Bourriaud states the lack of a homogenized reality represents a fundamental instability in the world that also reflects a general state of aesthetics.
