Abstract
We are delighted to edit this special issue of papers exploring discourse, narrative
and ethnographic approaches to the study of social work and counselling.
Such an orientation to research is represented in previous issues of the journal
(for example, Fraser, 2004; Juhila, 2004; Poindexter, 2002). However, the idea
of a special issue came from a series of conferences and seminars, mainly in
Europe, over the last few years in which researchers have exchanged ideas about
the importance of these approaches to the development of theory and practice
in social work and counselling.
