This paper offers an optimal resources / capabilities mix for recognizing entrepreneurial opportunities in contemporary organizations. To achieve this goal entrepreneurship literature has been critically reviewed. Doing so reveals that whilst authors offer a considerable number of factors determining the opportunity recognition process, six of them (prior knowledge, social networks, alertness, environmental changes, systematic search and creativity) are the ones most discussed. Four of these interact with each other: prior knowledge, social networks, environmental changes, and creativity. This study employs the resource-based theory (RBT) which leads to looking at these factors as capabilities. Accordingly, four matching capabilities: comprehension, connection / communication, creativity, and coping with changes are offered as the most significant factors in the opportunity recognition process. This framework called the Opportunity Recognition Mix – The 4Cs now needs to be tested to ensure its suitability for contemporary organizations.
