Abstract
The ‘pill’ is a familiar name for the combined oral contraceptive (COC) tablet, the most commonly used contraceptive in the United Kingdom (UK) and other
parts of the world. It consists of a combination of synthetic estrogen and a progesterone (Guillebaud & MacGregor, 2012). Despite its name, the ‘pill’ can in fact
also be delivered via a transdermal patch or vaginally from a contraceptive ring (UKMEC, 2016).
