Abstract: | Concert given for Sheffield Music Club. NIELS GADE: TRIO IN F MAJOR, OP 63 This programme of three piano trios from the Austro-German tradition is performed with modern instrument set-up, according to principles of string- and piano-playing outlined in 19th-century writings. Allowing themselves to be freely influenced by extensive knowledge of historical practices, the Meiningen Trio explores this repertoire of the past in terms of their own collective musical experience, and demonstrates how scholarship that closely examines performance practices of bygone traditions can stimulate creativity in shaping a contemporary performance. | ||||||||||||
