Abstract
This paper contributes to thinking about the subject of contemporary women and self portraiture in a discussion of four works by Sarah Lucas: Self Portrait with Fried Eggs 1996 and Self Portrait with Skull 1997, both included in Shifting Subjects, together with Supersensible, 1995 and 1978 (2000), two self portraits in Sarah Lucas: SITUATION Absolute Beach Man Rubble at the Whitechapel Galley in 2013. Themes emerging from these key works will be considered in relation to the concerns of the other artists in the 'Shifting Subjects' exhibition.
