Pioneering ensemble Apartment House presents an evening of music by one of the true iconoclasts of 20th-century music, John Cage, coinciding with the Hayward Gallery's touring Cage exhibition Every Day is a Good Day.

The father of American experimental composition, John Cage reinvented the very nature of what could be considered music with revolutionary pieces such as 4' 33". His exploration of the spaces between chance sound and composed music has had an enduring influence on a huge spectrum of artists and musicians, from Sonic Youth to Frank Zappa.

Apartment House was formed in 1995 and is a regular visitor to Europe's leading contemporary music festivals and specialises in developing composer-focused programmes.

Hayward Gallery at 6pm - A special viewing of John Cage - Every Day is a Good Day, followed by an introductory talk on Cage's visual art at 6.45pm in the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer. Free.

Queen Elizabeth Hall, post-concert - Laura Kuhn, Executive Director of the John Cage Trust, discusses the life and work of John Cage with members of Apartment House, Anton Lukoszevieze and Philip Thomas. Free to ticket holders of the 7.30pm event.
