Abstract
This paper considers the performative dimension of Red Oktober, an annual gathering of classic Eastern European cars at the National Tramway Museum. I argue that this combination of rural England and communist memorabilia, characterised by the nostalgic, the mundane and the imagined, acts as an unlikely modern carnival.
