Abstract
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in older people, with about half a million people affected in the UK1. There is no known cure and the disorder is usually terminal within three to seven years. The number of patients with dementia is estimated to double over the next 50 years2 – hence, the healthcare implications of this debilitating disorder are very significant.
