Abstract
The rate law for the aminolysis of benzylpenicillin is obtained and Brønsted -values indicate that the general-base-catalysed reaction occurs with a stepwise proton-transfer step; intramolecular general base catalysis occurs in the reaction of ethylenediamine with penicillin.
