Today, a growing number of enterprises are exploring new uses of IT as a means of maintaining agility and competitive advantage. It is anticipated that a superior degree of success may be derived from the improved alignment of flexible IT and global supply chain processes to customer focussed strategies. Whilst ERP systems have become more prevalent, increasing academic research and industrial feedback suggests that deployments of these all encompassing business applications have fallen short in delivering all of the various promises they make. The research presented within this paper aims to bridge the gap between business need and system effectiveness, re evaluating the requirements for modern day ERP systems. In the course of this work a ‘Business Strategy Driven IT System’ concept based upon enterprise engineering principles was conceived and examined. This paper introduces the concept and describes the results obtained during a pilot implementation at the premises of a partner enterprise.
