Abstract
This is a period of major upheaval in health care in the UK. Almost daily, increasing
numbers of NHS trusts announce job cuts – specialist nursing and other
support posts have been particularly hit. Although, in the short term, frontline
care may be maintained, the long-term implications will inevitably impact on
the quality of care for users. All those involved in delivering health care and in
educating the existing, and future, workforce are acutely aware that financial
matters loom large in the current climate.
