Various virtual environment construction methods and toolkits are available today, such as, Superscape VRT, VRML, Sense8 WorldToolKit, and Java3D. This paper provides an “inside” view of those methods. Based on the insight, their pros-and-cons are compared and categorized. A futuristic VE construction approach that aims to integrate application knowledge with environment data is proposed and its implementation discussed.
