Sibley, Martin J.N. (2012) Comparison of several pulse position modulation schemes when operating over plastic optical fibre. In: ICTON 2012: 14th International Conference on Transparent Optical Network, 2nd - 5th July 2012, University of Warwick, Coventry, UK.Metadata only available from this repository.
This paper examines the theoretical performance of five different pulse modulation schemes: Differential Pulse Position Modulation; Digital PIM, Dual Header PIM, Digital Pulse Position Modulation and Dicode Pulse Position Modulation. The optical channel considered is graded-index plastic optical fibre with a Gaussian shape impulse response. It is concluded that, on the basis of overall performance and the fact that it has inherent error detection, dicode pulse position modulation is the most suited for use in a local area network.
