The progress of research supported by a BIAT scholarship was discussed. Depending on the building type and its energy efficiency the output of carbon dioxide due to embodied energy can be crucial due to operational energy. The low energy building takes over 40 years for the operational energy use to equal that of the embodied energy. The initial phase of any research project involves investigation of thesis, literature search of journal articles, contacting fellow researchers in the relevant field.
