Abstract
Lansbury, George (1859–1940), leader of the Labour Party, was born on 22 February 1859 in the Thoroughfare, Halesworth, in Suffolk, the second of nine children of George Lansbury (d. 1875), railway timekeeper for Thomas Brassey & Co., and his Welsh wife, Mary Anne Ferries, daughter of James Ferries of Clyro, Radnorshire.
